A new immigration plan, drafted by Trump’s policy advisor, Stephen, is currently circulating Congress. The “administrative wish list” is the newest set of strict immigration proposals in accordance with Trump’s agreement with Senate and House Minority Leaders Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi to protect Dreamers and preserve DACA.
A leaked blueprint of the plan includes a revised travel ban; elimination of protection of young, unaccompanied children brought to the U.S. illegally; asylum restriction; reducing legal immigration and placing an emphasis on allowing skilled immigrants to enter; the addition of 10,000 new immigration officers; securing the border; and more.
While White House Press Secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders says no definitive plan has been verified or given a timeline, she commented that “We will be putting out specific principles that the White House supports and would like to see done legislatively.”
The Congressional Democrats have no yet commented on these proposals and how they fall into the agreement made with Trump about DACA.
Our Verdict: The drafted immigration polices reflect many of the same, unacceptable policies proposed previously. Because the plan has not been proposed officially, it will be interesting to see how Congressional Democrats respond to the draft. While saving DACA was a major issue for them, we doubt that Schumer and Pelosi would have agreed to the current blueprint of immigration policy.
