The Trump administration has taken a hard line on immigration, but this has the potential to hurt many of their constituents. During his campaign Trump said he was fighting for the little guy, people in the middle and lower middle class, the people the Obama administration apparently forgot about. However, these policies that Trump has been putting forward, like increasing the number of ICE officials in order to get more undocumented immigrants out of this country. This policy, while Trump and his advisors may think only hurts undocumented immigrants and their families, it also hurts the little guys that won Trump his presidency. This hits farmers the hardest, because they rely on cheap immigrant labor to help with most of their field work. Without an abundance of cheap labor this hurts the farmer's bottom line and makes being in that industry even harder.
Our Verdict: Immigration, illegal or not, helps to strengthen aspects of our economy and some industries rely on this steady flow of immigrants as labor for their operations, like farming and construction. The inflexibility on immigration has left hardworking people at financial risk. So, instead of him taking a hard line on immigration, he should account for all the good that this does for our economy and country as a whole.
