New immigration policy has been introduced in the Senate by Senator Tom Cotton (Arkansas) and David Perdue (Georgia). RAISE: Reforming American Immigration for Strong Employment seeks to gear the selection process of immigration towards a family based and employment based program. This would increase the percent of immigrants allowed in the United States and would ensure that those that would invigorate the economy and work world would be selected. “The act would also eliminate immigration entitlements outside the nuclear family of U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents,” according to thehill.com. This is an attempt to eliminate chain family immigration.
Our verdict: immigration is a touchy issue and strengthening the economy in the United States is important but this would also shut out many people seeking a better chance or refuge in the United States.
